“Jeremy Caplan has an engaging presence both in-person and online, and his classes are always a revelation. I first worked with Jeremy in 2011 when he gave a presentation about how to be a “Gmail Ninja” for Sree Sreenivasan’s “Advanced Social Media” classes at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. When Sree Sreenivasan and I brought the Social Media Weekend Conference to what is now the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY in 2015 (where Jeremy Caplan is Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment), Jeremy's keynote address, dubbed “30 Tools in 60 Minutes," introduced and explained phone apps that would help journalists, communications specialists, other professionals and students create content and organize their lives. Jeremy was a huge hit with our audience, and we have asked him to do a version of his talk at all subsequent Social Media Weekends. In March 2020, when Sree and his team had to quickly turn an in-real-life conference into a digital event due to the COVID-19 emergency, Jeremy achieved the perfect tone. His interactive session began with 250+ virtual attendees participating in an online poll. Following that, he demonstrated several apps for productivity while bringing everyone into an actual teamwork tool. A deep-dive into two particularly useful apps rounded out the workshop. As he has done since I first saw him in action, Jeremy gave attendees a link to an interactive document so they can revisit the information.
